On behalf of the Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies (KASEAS) and with the support of the ASEAN–Korea Cooperation Fund, we are pleased to announce the call for applications for the ASEAN–Korea Young Scholar Research Grant 2025.

This annual program is designed to support graduate students from ASEAN Member States (including Timor-Leste) and Korea who are eager to deepen their expertise in Southeast Asian, ASEAN and ASEAN-Korea studies. The grant provides fieldwork funding, mentorship, and opportunities for international networking with scholars and institutions across the region.


Key Benefits for Selected Scholars:

  • Funding for up to 3 months of fieldwork in ASEAN countries or Korea (excluding one’s home country)

  • Round-trip airfare (up to USD 1,000) and a monthly stipend of USD 1,300

  • Participation in the ASEAN–Korea Young Scholar Workshop, with the chance to present research findings and engage with peers and mentors

  • Academic affiliation and guidance from host universities and local scholars


Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be graduate students (Master’s or Doctoral) who are citizens of ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste, or Korea, and enrolled in accredited universities in their home country.

  • Research must focus on Southeast Asian studies, ASEAN studies, ASEAN–Korea studies, or comparative topics.


Important Dates:

  • Application Deadline: October 26, 2025

  • Fieldwork Period: Minimum 3 months, to be completed no later than April 2026
