The Korea Institute for Southeast Asian Studies (KISEAS) successfully celebrated its 20th Anniversary Forum on December 20, 2024. Since its inception as the Southeast Asian Political Research Association in December 1990 and its transformation into the Korea Association of Southeast Asian Studies (KASEAS) in March 2020, KISEAS has served as a pivotal bridge in the institutionalization of Southeast Asian studies in Korea.
The forum featured insightful discussions on preserving and advancing the rich traditions established by KISEAS, including monthly colloquia, collaborative research, international partnerships, and graduate student seminars. Distinguished former directors and chairpersons shared heartfelt reflections and forward-looking proposals. The event also brought together current members and former graduate student members for a joyful and nostalgic reunion.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the ASEAN-Korea Centre for hosting us in their warm and welcoming ASEAN Hall. Special thanks go to Kim Hyun Kyoung (Editorial Secretary of KASEAS) and Hyun Sinae (Vice Director of KISEAS) for their exceptional efforts in making the event a success.
